Kyle Cooper Special

Kyle Cooper. He is one of those long-time compagnions of David Fincher, who date way back to SE7EN -- to which Cooper contributed the infamously stylish title sequences. Even the fifteen years after that has been released, SE7EN is still one of his standout works. The one that garnered him the title of the "most influential film credit designer" since Hitchcock-buddy Saul Bass.

+++ I have to fire these out first off: Big thanks to frequent contributer Manny for sending me most of these following links and reminding me to write this post. I appreciate that! +++

Kyle Cooper has founded the legendary design companies IMAGINARY FORCES (website) and PROLOGUE FILMS. Imaginary Forces has been on my radar for quite a few years, for the great work they do in both credit design and commercials.

On the website of his new company, Prologue.com, Cooper showcases all of his recent works. Among them: an impressive gallery of artwork, drafts and process works for "The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button" (click "process"). Let me only say this: Every piece that Cooper calls "process" (which means that the design ultimately didn't make the bid for the official artwork) is a universe of talent away from anything I could do. It's really worth a browse. Amazing!

"[A good title sequence] makes you thrilled to be in this theatre at this moment, getting ready to see this movie. It makes you glad that you are nowhere else in the world except where you are, getting ready to see something amazing." -- Kyle Cooper

  4. Spike Jonze, a friend of Fincher, has done a new commercial with Brad Pitt for SoftBank, the same company Finch has done a commercial for (also with Brad).

  8. Apparently Kyle Cooper shot the footage for the titles of Seven himself... Wow! What a talent! He'd make quite the DP.

Fincherfanatic, you should drop Cooper a mail and ask for an interview on making the titles of Seven with Fincher... the where's, the how, the what... hasn't really been covered in detail yet! And if artofthetitle can score an interview with the man, so can you! Nothing to lose by asking...

  9. Nice special on Kyle Cooper!

IFC.com put together a list of the 50 best trailers, which is surely debatable, and Alien came in first... not Fincher's Alien, that is.
