Rendezvous With Rama Dead?

In a post from this Monday Firstshowing.net quotes an upcoming interview with David Fincher, confirming that "it looks like ['Rendezvous With Rama' is] not going to happen." This is primarily due to the development-plagued project's prime advocate, producer and lead-actor Morgan Freeman, being in ill health due to his August car accident.

Surprisingly Fincher goes on to say there was "no script", when Freeman announced a while back they were working on a new draft. And obviously Freeman was still unable to cough up the vast budget the combination of Arthur C. Clarke's science-fiction epic with David Fincher in the director's chair would demand.

The movie has been in development for a decade or so, with David Fincher being associated with the director's position for many years. With this brandnew statement, unfortunately it looks like FincherFanatic's might have to wait a while longer for Fincher's glorious and redeeming return to the Sci-Fi genre.

Too bad. Sounded like an absolute must-see all along.
