Daniel Craig To Star In "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"

Deadline heard it first: After an extended period of circling the project and juggling other obligations, Daniel Craig has finally made himself available and officially signed on for the male lead in David Fincher's Hollywood retelling of "Men Who Hate Women", aka "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo".

In case you are unfamiliar with the Swedish movie or the novels, Craig will not be one of the men who hate women. Instead he will take on the role of journalist Mikael Blomkvist, love interest to the film's controversial, daring and hyped femme fatale part of Lisbeth Salander, an a**-kicking lesbian computer hacker punk girl.

I'm told that with a whole lot of juggling between three studios, Craig will be able to make the movies. Essentially, he will begin work on the first film in Sweden, as soon as he removes his cowboy hat from shooting Cowboys and Aliens in the early fall."

Not too long ago it was reported David Fincher had ordered his contenders for the female lead to gear up on their Swedish accents. Now this new report also indicates that the story will not be relocated to Northern American territory but stick with the original novel and its Stockholm setting.

The more we learn about this project, the more exciting it becomes: Based on a bestselling trilogy. Perfect choice David "Dark Eye" Fincher set to helm the production. Steve Zaillian writing the all-new adaptation. Daniel Craig appearing a thrilling casting choice for Blomkvist... Sounds terrific!

Of course casting Lisbeth Salander might be the trickiest, make-or-break decision for the endeavor, as Swedish actress Noomi Rapace gave an intense and indelible performance that will be quite a challenge to live up to. Judging by how fast this project has been moving these last couple of weeks, we should see an official casting decision very soon. And if all goes well, we will have a great time come December 2011: Sony's scheduled release date for the picture.

Can't wait to see where Fincher is taking this...
What do you guys think?

  1. I think Craig is a great choice. I can see him melting into that role perfectly. When I read the books all I could think of was what Fincher was going to do with certain scenes. I imagine it will be brilliant. Can't wait!

  2. Craig is a suck choice. Last person I envision as Mikke Blomqvist. Leave it to the American casting amateurs to make such a poor choice. My revenge, I won't see the film.

  3. Russell Crowe would have been a better choice
