How The Magic Happened

Let me bring a few links before you, which I stumbled over in these last days. One behind the scenes video for "Benjamin Button", a modest appraisal of "Se7en" from the Film School Rejects and a handful of interviews with Mr. Fincher & Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Taraji P. Henson and good old Jared Harris.

The "Benjamin Button" video posted up on Empire Online is taken from the documentary on the Criterion DVD. So should you guys like this and not already own the DVD -- there is about 2 1/2 hours worth of this stuff on the 2-disc edition!

The "Se7en" review I loved so much for the simple sake of "Se7en" being one of my favorite movies of all time. So any reasonable praise the film is getting I will rally behind. It's a joy to read and it makes you want to rewatch the film for all its glory and greatness right away.

Last but not least I'll throw some links at you of interview sessions with Pitt, Blanchett and Fincher (2 parts) and Taraji P. Henson and Jared Harris talking about their experiences making "Benjamin Button". Ain't on the DVD. So check it out...

  1. Thanks for the links!

I would change the background color to a darker brown, that would look better. And I would also change the blog commenting page to make it more similar to the blog layout.

  2. Thanks for the input. Yeah, colors are a mess. I made the background a little darker brown now, but of course I am trying to match up the look of not only this site, but for fincherfanatic.com -- it has to fit together. Oh my, there is no way around it. We'll have to get a graphic designer soon!!

As for the commenting page -- I have no idea how to change that. I am thinking this is just blogger's standard commenting page, is it not? Do you (guys) know anything about that?

  3. Nevermind. I just looked into it... and now commenting looks like this. That better?

    Thanks again for your input.

  4. Awesome! Much better... now just pick the brown color in a shadow area of Tyler Durden's face (from the painting, heh) as background color, and you're golden! (The brown should be much warmer.)

  5. Try this one: #8B5120
there's more warmth to it, yet it shouldn't distract from the content in the middle.

  6. hmmm... a bit darker would be better I think. try this one: #593415

  7. Ok, try this one last: #42250E (a bit darker still)
And if you can, make the middle part of the blog have a shadow on the right/bottom, so it looks like the middle part is on top of the background, not embedded in it.

  8. It is, to my eyes, still too bright. Basically the issue is that if the perimeter color is too bright, it distracts from the text on the central black background. Your text is dark; your brown needs to be even darker. (It can be practically black, and as long as it *isn't* black, it'll still stand out as a different background color. Come on, man. This is a *David Fincher* blog! Don't be afraid to be even darker.)

  9. The other anonymous has a point, the middle part being pitch black doesn't help with establishing a background. Furthermore, the color values I give you always seem to be brighter on your page. But what about this brown: #271303 ? It's a lot darker... can't go much darker than that with it still being brownish. If that doesn't work out, well... then there's the option to go back to the classic silver theme as a background: #3F3E3C . That would lack the warmth of the brown and be a bit... uhm... colorless (even though theoretically speaking, there is no value that isn't color).

  10. Anonymous, thanks for your many inputs. It seems very hard to pick a suitable color for the site, and you are probably right about the background being black not being the best design choice. I don't want everyone to get bored with too much design detail... just this much... I am open to all design suggestions, but what we really need is a web-designer devoting his attention fully to the presentation and visual quality of this site. I will be looking for one soon, so if you know anyone or are exceptionally talented yourselves, please do prepare a little portfolio, so we can make a good decision.

I am far from being a programmer or webdesigner myself, so I am happy as soon as my stuff shows up! Haha.
