Fincher Wins Director Of The Year

It's the Brits who finally show some love for David Fincher. However, they have made it a little easier on themselves to make the choice between Fincher (and his curious case) and their darling Danny Boyle ("Slumdog Millionaire") -- they simple have two categories: One for Director Of The Year ... the other British Director Of The Year.

That does sound a little amusing to me. But overall you can quickly see it's the same films and the same names that come popping up everywhere else: "The Wrestler", "Slumdog Millionaire", "The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button", mixed with a little "The Reader" and "Waltz With Bashir".

February is continuing the award's season: With the BAFTA Awards coming February 8th and the Academy Awards on the 22nd. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

    I'm not too dejected about the probability of Slumdog being the big winner in the categories that matter at the Oscars. I think that Slumdog is going to have an instant backlash before being totally forgotten about while CCBB goes on to become a movie that continually gets revisited. Plus, Boyle is a talented guy who's done good work in the past and this will probably be his only chance to win best director, whereas Fincher will be a mainstay for decades to come in the category. If Fincher ever won one, it would be nice to see since he's such a fascinating speaker, but if he didn't that would be okay too if you look at the list of similarly brilliant filmmakers who went to the grave sans Oscar.

    I think BAFTA has two such Director categories as well, don't they?

    If so, The Finch may win another one this Sunday.

    I finally saw it today...

    I have only one complaint. It should have been 30 minutes... longer. Or maybe 45 minutes. Nevertheless, it made an impact on me.

    Now, I can relate to this "Button = Gump" thing. I'll adimit Roth used similar "tricks" that he used in Gump. Those are just small details, yet the movie feels completely different. I would rather say that "Button" is Anti-Gump! Forrest was often placed in the center of the history, he was even made part of history. Whereas Benjamin is only a bystander. This is not "The Magnificent Case of Benjamin Button" it's only curious case. Those two movies are very different.

    The technical part of the movie is (of course) perfect. I was blown away by the makeup and VFX. Those people just outdone themselves. It's a phenomenally well done movie.

    I'm sure, I will be going back to it.
