The Game Gets Criterion Treatment

There's a reason for summer to end sooner this year : Fincher's masterpiece comes out fully restored and bonus packed September 25th!

We've been waiting for this one a long time, haven't we? We hardly believed it could happen but here it is with a gorgeously conceptual jacket :

Check out Criterion website for full disc features that even includes an alternate ending!

  1. VERY VERY COOL! Finally!

Now we just need Panic Room on BD!

  2. I suspect the commentary (Fincher and Douglas), making-of material and alternate ending come from the UK DVD (for those of us who already have it.)

Side note: I accidentally found yet another Fight Club tribute clip on YouTube. I don't think it was posted here (if it was, sorry) Here's the link (it's very spoilery ;) )

  6. Love the cover... But not a single new special feature... dissapointing... And the alternate ending is not very spectacular.

  7. That looks amazing ! But do you know the zonage of the blu-ray ?? Because I live in France and I would like to know if it's zone-free or if it's going to come out in Europe.

  8. Criterion are Region A. Unfortunately and annoyingly.

  9. :'( Well, I'll cry until such treatment for the film will be maid in Europe then... I think I'm going to buy a multi-region blu-ray player for my birthday just to be able to see this blu-ray :D !

  11. This pretty much did it for me ~ I'm gonna get me a multi-region blu-ray player. I'd love to know why a cool, boutique label like Criterion restrict their discs while big bad corporate beasts, like Paramount, Fox, et al, make theirs playable to all.
What with 'The Game', 'The Royal Tenenbaums', 'Metropolitan', and their David Lean/Noel Coward box, it's just impossible to resist any longer! There may be no supplements on 'The Game' that I don't already have from the R2 DVD, but I just really want to see Savides' sublime cinematography at the highest fidelity possible.

  12. A cool little article on Shore's score, to get us in the mood. Not long to go now...

Also, a clue as to what David Sterritt's essay may hold - here's his original, perceptive review from 1997 ~

    And that cover, maxi-size ~

  13. First review appears ~

Nice to see the CRS psychological test film is included (probably as an easter egg) ~ last found on Criterion's laserdisc.

But the principal lure for me is still the 1080p restored & Fincher/Savides supervised transfer.

I bought a new multi-region blu-ray player this week, just for this; Thanks Criterion!
