May 22nd 2007 came and went almost unnoticed. However, it marked the 15th anniversary of David Fincher's first feature film release, ALIEN3. Even if belated, this marks a good opportunity for FincherFanatics to say "Happy Birthday" -- although that very film could easily have been David's worst nightmare.
I remember reading, David was post-producing the film during the L.A. riots and hoped, someone would set fire to the studio and destroy the negatives. Sounds pretty bad, huh? -- Well, cheer up, David: You did some pretty decent work since then!
In one way, of course, I would like for David to have had a better entree into Hollywood and wish we could have witnessed his original vision for the franchise put onscreen. On the other hand, I am convinced that it needed this catastrophic experience to make David the kind of exacting, precise and uncompromising director he has become. In a weird way I am thinking that maybe there wouldn't be SE7EN, FIGHT CLUB or ZODIAC if it weren't for the horrible experience on ALIEN3.
With this in mind and to properly celebrate the disaster, let's have another look at the ALIEN3 original cinematical trailer. For old times' sake -- and because it actually looks pretty good!
Happy Birthday!
