I love how very different they feel. The "Golf" one has such a tangible Zodiac feeling to it, it's just amazing. Editing, of course, is spot on, and... need I really say anything about the cinematography?
Mashable and Creativity Online both have a ton of background info on these, e.g. how Fincher had actors run for ten minutes straight as part of casting for the staircase ad. Behind the lens we also have quite the Oscar worthy Fincher line up: DOP Jeff Cronenweth, editor Kirk Baxter, costumes Trish Summerville, and production designer Don Burt.
So sure, go ahead and purchase your fall collection. Or just consider these an extended appetizer for "Gone Girl".
Thanks to all you wonderful contributors!

Yeah, it's Fincher's birthday but we are getting all the presents :P I absolutely love these ads. They are classy but at the same time sexy as hell :)
ReplyDeleteSorry for the Gap playlist being already in the post. With so many updates and links I'm a little bit blinded...
ReplyDeleteEveryone download hi-res versions right now! Gorgeous quality. Thanks very much Daryl!

Thanks for those HD downloads, Daryl! Excellent quality to watch them again... and again... and again. My favorite right now is the Golf commercial, with my 2nd favorite being the wet girl in the car, then the guy running up the steps and finally the mirror one. Something about the mirror one just seems a bit off for me... I feel like it could be something that was done digitally in the computer (though when I watch it nothing pops out to me as being effected in post).
ReplyDeleteWith that said, Fincher's worst is still better then many other director's best.
And if David Fincher does visit this site - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR. FINCHER!
Anybody know where to get the full entertainment weekly article?
ReplyDeleteThe link to the “Entertainment Weekly” article scans has been already posted. But here it is again, courtesy of a Ben Affleck fan site.
ReplyDeleteIf you meant the “Empire” Magazine article, here it is, this time, thanks to BradPittOnline, a Pitt & Fincher fan site.
The September issue of the french magazine “Première” (No.451) brings a 16 page Fincher & Gone Girl special:
- “Fincher King”, an 8 page interview by Frédérick Foubert.
- “The Fincher Network”, a 4 page article on present and past collaborators’ opinions about Fincher.
- “David Avant Fincher”, a 4 page article on the beginnings of Fincher.
And Rosamund Pike on the cover of the U.K. Voge.

Thanks Daryl, awesome links :)
DeleteMerci Daryl ! Good to be French at this moment !
DeleteHello Micha. Any possibility of a translation of the “Première” 8 page Fincher interview? Only if you have a spare weekend free! ;)
DeleteOf course ! I'll try to find the time to do it this week or the upcoming cause I have some free time and it will enhance my english ;)
DeleteThat would be awesome.
DeleteI was going to Google Translate the shit out of it, wich is OK but not awesome ;)
No non I'm going to buy it and translate it and I think I'll put it here by the end of next week. You'll just have to wait a little bit ;)
DeleteYou are a star Micha. We don't mind waiting.
DeleteMerci!

ReplyDeleteThis blur in Brad Pitt's wedding photo looks suspiciously like David Fincher.
He needs to moisturise!
DeleteAnyone recognise the handycam make&model (4K I assume).
Wonder if DF will be doing a commentary track for the wedding blu-ray...
Time for some GG hype. Apparently some lucky people already saw it:

ReplyDeletePremier magazine scans. Those Ben Affleck fans are hard working! It's a really good read. He talks about why 20,000 leagues didn't work out (money) and the Steve Jobs movie (difficult to market and difference in opinion to the Studio). Why he chose to do Gone Girl (wanted to look at the theme of narcissism and how in today's society people are obsessed with how others perceive them and presenting an ideal version of themselves. Relationships go wrong when this facade cracks.). He also talks about some of the usual things like film vs movie and how it's easier to make movies from popular books (less risk for the studio). There's also some nice interviews on Fincher from people that have worked with him. What Ben Affleck said was really interesting. I'm sure somebody who's better at French then me will be able to translate the article.
Forgot to mention that my rough translation of some of the things he said could be wrong so I recommend you read it for yourself.
ReplyDeleteI'm already translating all the interview anonymous don't worry it will be there by the end of the week maybe even before.
ReplyDeleteThank you! That's really kind of you. I don't feel confident enough in my French to translate such a large amount of text.
DeleteThe september issue of the film magazine in italian Ciak:
ReplyDelete- Cover with the now famous "Gone Girl" autopsy photo: "Gone Girl: L'amore bugiardo" ("The Lying Love", wich is the italian title for the novel).
- Interview with David Fincher by Marco Giovannini: "L'amore è una cosa pericolosa" ("Love is a Dangerous Thing")
Lovely.
I understand italian a little bit but I don't speak it. Any italian FincherFanatic around here for the translation? ;)
The cover
DeleteSo he is obviously touring Europe for a few days ;) Who is the lucky bastard to attend this masterclass? ;)
ReplyDeleteNot me :(
ReplyDeleteI don't live in Madrid and It doesn't seem to be opened to the general public.
Well, apparently they are drawing invitations. I'm going to try...
ReplyDeleteOk, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. For all the work you've done here, you deserve to be there :)
ReplyDeleteDo try, Daryl! You will be our (more than envious) eyes and ears inside. A Fincher masterclass sounds like... well, there's nothing to compare it to, it would just be cinematic paradise. Do try, and I will keep my fingers crossed as well!
ReplyDeleteAwesome stuff!
